Talia Chippendale

Talia Chippendale is a 2D character animation and character design specialist. She is heavily inspired by the classic anime styles such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Angel’s Egg and Appleseed- along with many western cartoons like Avatar The Last Airbender and The Prince of Egypt. She studied fine art before moving onto character animation, and carries artists like Salvador Dali and Taiyo Matsumoto as constant inspirations.

Talia mainly uses Photoshop for her illustrations, and Toon Boom Harmony for animating. However, this film was made as a tribute to her love of traditional art and sketching, so the film was animated on paper and composited, coloured and edited in Harmony and Premiere Pro. This gave the film a lovely fluent and “sketchy” visual.

The concept for the film V.Pyre came from Talia’s love of both Gothic and Futuristic media, which come together here in the form of Vampires in a cyberpunk dystopia. Vampires however, are such a popular creature in media that in order to make the concept feel fresh, she chose to make the Human characters dangerous villains instead of the vampires. Finally, the film also had a western twist inspired by most of Quentin Tarantino’s films. By crossing all of these genres, Talia feels that V.Pyre stands out as something unique and bold.
